Black Orchid
Transforming a tea ritual into a meditative design experience.
overview
This limited-edition collaboration with artist Brandon Sadler (a.k.a. Rising Red Lotus) fused contemporary craft, wellness, and spiritual symbolism. The goal was to design a tea ritual set that elevated the act of unboxing into a mindful, art-driven ceremony, a moment of stillness in an overstimulated world.
Concept & Execution
The strategy centered on translating Sadler’s visual language — rooted in Eastern calligraphy, mythology, and sacred geometry, into a tactile, sensory experience that guided consumers toward presence.
From the sculptural tea vessel to modular compartments and the accompanying booklet, every element reflected Sadler’s philosophy of balance and flow.
Textures, rhythms, and layers were orchestrated to make the unboxing experience meditative rather than transactional, each gesture deliberate, each detail intentional.
OUTPUT
I co-led the creative direction and oversaw the execution across packaging, materials, and communications, ensuring the system felt cohesive, symbolic, and contemporary.
By treating form, material, and tactility as integral parts of storytelling, the set invited consumers into a ritual of slowing down — transforming product interaction into ceremony.
Conclusion
The final design honored Sadler’s artistry while offering a sensory, spiritual encounter that blurred the line between product and art object.
The tea ritual set became a cultural artefact, proof that packaging can transcend function, becoming a bridge to mindfulness and a testament to the power of design as ritual.
