The Altered States of Wellbeing
A foresight report decoding how altered states are reshaping the future of wellness and human transformation.
overview
The Altered States of Wellbeing was The Mighty Shed’s most ambitious foresight report to date, marking a strategic pivot from tobacco innovation toward the pleasure and wellbeing sector. The brief was to decode the evolving cultural landscape of wellness across territories such as food, cannabis, biohacking, and digital detox.
Concept & Execution
The goal was to move beyond traditional notions of health maintenance, exploring how altered states, from stimulation to stillness, shape the ways people seek balance, escape, and transformation.
The strategy combined deep cultural insight with speculative foresight, mapping how emotional and physiological states influence consumer choices and emerging industries.
The intent was to make complex ideas accessible through a blend of storytelling, visual clarity, and layered insight, helping brands see the wellbeing landscape with new eyes.
OUTPUT
I directed the full development of the report, from content architecture and editorial vision to visual design and production, ensuring coherence across every element.
The result was a 66-page report that wove together research, cultural analysis, and design storytelling into a single, visually rich narrative.
Conclusion
The report became a foundational tool used in global brand workshops, innovation sprints, and thought leadership initiatives across the wellbeing sector.
By reframing wellness through the lens of altered consciousness, it provided a provocative and actionable framework for brands to explore new territories, shift categories, and connect more meaningfully with modern consumer motivations.
