VitraHaus

Designing an environmental graphic system that guides and delights, bringing VitraHaus’s architectural and design philosophy to life.

overview

I collaborated with Vitra’s in-house architecture team to create the environmental graphics for VitraHaus, Herzog & de Meuron’s flagship showroom. The brief was to enhance the visitor experience while complementing the building’s architectural design and the eclectic Home Collection.

Concept & Execution

The system balanced function with playfulness. Subtle wayfinding ensured clarity for visitors, while whimsical interventions reflected Vitra’s philosophy of collage and the eclectic character of its collection.

Oversized Eames push pins, tactile ceramic number prototypes, and the RFID-enabled ‘HausKey’ were used as playful, sensory elements that reinforced brand personality and offered functional guidance.

Every intervention was considered in relation to the architectural environment: signage that disappears where needed, surprises where it could delight, creating a layered narrative that elevated visitor engagement.

I collaborated closely with the architecture team, shaping the overall environmental graphic system and ensuring every element was both intuitive and expressive.

Key elements included signage, playful wayfinding, interactive features like the ‘HausKey’, and tactile installations. The system integrated seamlessly into the architectural context while enhancing visitor experience across public spaces.

Conclusion

The graphics guided over 300,000 annual visitors through the space while maintaining a sense of delight and discovery.

VitraHaus became more than a showroom, it was transformed into a storytelling canvas where brand identity and architectural experimentation coexist, proving how environmental graphics can express personality beyond logos and print.
