SPECTATOR LIFE

OVERVIEW

I led the concept and art direction for The Wish List feature in Spectator Life, showcasing a selection of luxury watches under the theme “the future.” Rather than defaulting to a sterile sci-fi aesthetic, the vision drew on the playful retro-futurism of the 1960s, when imagination, optimism, and innovation shaped what tomorrow could look like.

STRATEGY

The direction explored space-age design cues from the era: spherical structures, glass surfaces, and modernist textures. A muted blue palette provided a refined backdrop, while a watch with a vivid orange strap inspired the introduction of orange Perspex accents for contrast and cohesion. Working alongside photographer Arthur Woodcroft and stylist/set designer Kerry Hughes, we sourced props from model-making workshops to craft environments that felt inventive yet polished, creating a future viewed through a mid-century lens.

OUTPUT

The final editorial delivered a cohesive visual story, elevating each timepiece through conceptual styling and sculptural lighting. Every composition was art-directed to highlight craftsmanship and forward-thinking design, transforming the watches into symbols of imagined decades-ahead luxury.

IMPACT

The feature brought a fresh, narrative-driven approach to product storytelling for the publication, positioning the watches not only as premium objects of desire, but as artefacts of a stylish, optimistic future once envisioned.
