From peloton slang to premium product
During lockdown, I developed The Sticky Bottle, a self-initiated concept for solid wooden bidon paperweights aimed at cycling enthusiasts. The idea plays on two cycling references: the materiality of wood (the stick) and the phrase “sticky bottle,” a nod to when a team car discreetly assists a rider by pulling them forward during a bottle handoff.
The project combined product storytelling with cycling culture, translating insider references into a desirable object. 3D renders were produced to prototype form, finish, and weight. Manufacturers were identified, though production has not yet commenced.
A collectible rooted in cycling culture
Marketing materials drew inspiration from vintage cycling apparel and imagery, positioning the paperweights as both functional and collectable. The project demonstrates how playful cultural codes can be reimagined into premium design objects, turning a familiar phrase into a tangible artefact for fans of the sport.
