Rising Red Lotus

Where art meets ritual

For this limited-edition collaboration, I helped design a tea ritual set that fused contemporary craft with the spiritual, symbolic language of artist Brandon Sadler (a.k.a. Rising Red Lotus). The goal was to create packaging and literature that not only housed the tea, but also guided consumers into a slowed-down, intentional ritual experience. I collaborated on the creative direction and execution of every element: from the sculptural tea vessel to the modular inner compartments and the accompanying booklet. Each touchpoint was inspired by Sadler’s practice, a blend of Eastern calligraphy, mythology, and sacred geometry, and translated into a design system that felt both modern and reverent. Form, material, and tactility were as important as visuals. Careful choices around textures, layers, and rhythm ensured that unboxing wasn’t transactional, but meditative, an experience that elevated a daily act into a ceremonial moment.

Packaging as a path to presence

The final design honoured Sadler’s artwork while offering consumers an immersive, sensory encounter. Richly layered packaging and the art-forward booklet turned the set into more than a product: it became a cultural object, aligning ceremonial intention with contemporary aesthetics. For me, the project was a reminder of the power of design to move beyond function. By combining art, ritual, and material craft, we created something that encouraged mindfulness in an unexpected space, showing how even packaging can become a bridge to presence.
